Gold Bar Rim / Rusty Nail - Rated 8

Gold Bar Rim / Rusty Nail - Rated 8

This short (approximately 1-mile) but demanding segment serves as a direct connector to the Golden Crack portion of the Golden Spike Trail. For maximum challenge, it is often combined with the most difficult sections of the Golden Spike Trail and the full Gold Bar Rim Trail, creating an intense, high-adrenaline route that rigorously tests 4WD vehicles and equipment. Scenery Features expansive panoramic views of the Colorado River, surrounding canyons, and mesas. Jeep Arch is visible along the route. The top of Gold Bar Rim overlooks Moab Valley and Arches National Park. Gooney Bird Rock is passed twice. Surface Consists of numerous ledges, off-camber sections, boulder climbs, and a few smooth slickrock areas. Trail Details The route includes many ledges and tippy sections, with only two formally named obstacles to date: Riff Raff — encountered about halfway; a two-part obstacle featuring a large undercut slab that must be surmounted to reach a slanted rock face, followed by a climb over multiple large undercut rocks with significant gaps between them. No Left Turn — requires a sharp right turn around a rock wall, then a steep slickrock drop into a narrow chute with a drop-off on the left and wall on the right; a large boulder forces the left tires to climb over it while keeping the vehicle’s top clear of the wall. After passing through the Rusty Nail section, the trail connects to the remaining Golden Spike obstacles and “The Waterfall” on the Gold Bar Rim Trail. Length: 47 total, 27 off highway Min Tire Size: 35+ inches Winch: No, Front Locker: Yes, Rear Locker: Yes
