Kane Creek Canyon - Rated 7

Kane Creek Canyon - Rated 7

This route follows Kane Creek (Kane Springs Canyon) from the Colorado River to Highway 191, with >50 creek crossings and one high shelf section on the canyon wall. Spring runoff or post-storm conditions often bring mud, quicksand, or impassable water. Thick brush on both sides risks paint scratches. Scenery Lower canyon: narrow, winding, highly scenic. Mid-upper: wider, straighter, ~1,000 ft deep. Above Hatch Wash junction: clearer water, gravel bottom, more intimate feel. Surface The lower section is 2WD gravel to the first ford, followed by a silt bench with gullies and narrow spots, then sandy creek crossings (possible quicksand) with thick brush, and finally a rocky creek bottom with rocky steps on a narrow shelf road above the creek. Trail Details Continuous spectacular views. Main challenge: eroded rocky shelf high above creek, followed by tough Muleshoe Canyon ledge (especially difficult on wet tires). Annual erosion requires fresh rating checks before each event. Length: total 38, off highway 20 Min Tire Size: 35+ inches Winch: No, Front Locker: Yes, Rear Locker: Yes
